If you are looking for something that differs from the usual cookout, or late summer camping trip for Labor Day weekend, I have just the thing! Herrmann’s Royal Lipizzan Stallions are coming to East Ridge Stable in Charleston!

The event is going to feature 4 shows. The first show will be on September 1 at 7:00 pm, followed by shows on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th at 3:00 pm.

The proceeds from the show will go to Lawrence Farm Equine Shelter in Athens. LFES takes in “abused, neglected, starved and surrendered horses, ponies and donkeys. Within the State of Maine.”

Tracy Lawrence, the founder of LFES is excited to have been selected to benefit from this show featuring one of the rarest breed of horses in the world.

He tells me that the funds will be used to gain his “Non Profit Status”, purchase new pens, cover vet costs, and ensure that there is enough hay on hand for the winter.

Currently, LFES has 14 horses they care for, last winter they had 16 , and that is A LOT of hay! It takes roughly 200 round bales to carry LFES through the winter, and at $45-$60 a bale you can see how that adds up.

LFES getting approved as a non-profit will open up many opportunities in the future, and allow them to help even more troubled equine friends!

The show will be under cover, so if it rains there won’t be any issues, but you should bring your own chairs. There will also be an area for folks with wheelchairs, and other special needs so they will have access to good views without having to try and see over folks who choose to stand!

Concessions will be available for purchase on site, and the Darling’s Ice Cream truck will be on hand for the Saturday show!  Parking is free.  Tickets are available in advance by contacting Debby Kendall at 207-904-9658, or at the gate the day of the show.

About Doug Alley

I grew up in Bath, Maine in an upper lower class family with 3 step sisters, a step brother, and a little sister. After high school I spent 3 years serving in the USAF at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage AK. I've competed in, and won, demolition derbies. I've competed in, and never won, stock car races. I am the 47-year-old father of an 11-year-old boy who is pretty sure he is smarter than I ever was. We live on a little less than an acre of land in a 1973 mobile home in Stetson with my wife Jen, some cats, a few chickens, and rabbits, and a couple of goats. I hunt, fish, camp out, dabble in photography, gardening, and I cook in variable degrees of near success.
